OH! This is great! I used to help make noodles as a child...I could roll them out and cut them, but my aunt or great-grandma would actually make the dough. I have never made them as an adult though, and this sounds like fun. I liked your telling us that hobbits made large batches and stored some away!

I liked your reference to Merry having shorter visits because of his responsibilities, and that he was a better judge of Pippin's health, and that Pippin had stayed on to visit longer on his own. The two might be inseperable, yet they do have separate lives too, lol.
