I was thinking of hobbits when I read some of those dish titles! Maybe one of the Tooks' cooks created "gooseberry fools"? Or a Gamgee made "apple pandowdy"? I can certainly see hobbits enjoying anything called "roly poly"!
Something that did interest me is that I don't like "cobbler" with biscuit dough, but I put a pie crust on top instead. So I wonder if what I make is more like a "pandowdy" -- except that the filling is more like a cobbler (no brown sugar or molasses).
