Way back in my third story, "A Conspiracy of Hobbits", I tell how Freddy Bolger comes up with the idea of the birthday cake as a diversion, so that Frodo will think any plotting they are doing has to do with his birthday surprise.

I was pleased with how it turned out. I combined two other recipes to come up with this one!
