July 4th Celebration

Well,no real recipes...but since LJ is international, I thought I'd enter how we spend July 4th.

We've had, for the past 10 years or so, an open house with open invitations to Bob's bicycle riding buddies and their spouses. We barbecue chicken breasts, I do a "quick barbecued beans". I buy a couple of cans of Heinz baked beans (no meat) and add about 1/2-3/4 cup any barbecue sauce, then cook on low for about 2 hours until very thick.

I also make biscuits (refrigerator biscuits in tubes in the refrig case from the market).....I have also bought Kentucky Fried Chicken buiscuits (to die for) in the past.

People bring side dishes....fruit salad, tabouli(a Lebanese friend), cole slaw, appetizers. We fill a wheelbarrow filled with ice and put in champagne, wine, beer, carbonated beverages (some no-sugar). For dessert I make chocolate-dipped strawberries...(1 large package choc. chips mixed with 1 Tbsp. liquid shortening and melted.) Dip strawberries and cool in refrigerator until serving time. I also make a double batch of cookies...this year will be choc chip because I got a good deal on the chips!.

I go big time into decorations...."The Party Store"...streamers, door decorations, lanterns, paper plates, napkins, glasses, tablecloths...

No fireworks *sniff* because Los Angeles no allows..

but with enough champagne, no matter!!!!

Happy Fourth
