hello there!

hi there! my name is pj and i'm a 23-year-old girl from the philippines.

i really like the idea of having a community dedicated to both lotr fics and the food that hobbits might like to eat.

here's a recipe i personally recommend to eat while reading lots of wonderful hobbity fics. it comes highly recommended from my family and friends.

p.s. i know curry might not be a native dish for hobbits, but this is a hearty and filling affair, good to eat with either flat bread, mashed potatoes, or rice. plus, there're mushrooms!

beef curry

ingredients
1 onion, sliced thinly
3 segments garlic, crushed and peeled
cooking oil [pref. corn oil, and with a dash of extra virgin olive oil if available]
3/4 kilo beef [stroganoff pieces]
6-8 ice cubes
salt to taste
1 beef bouillon cube, crushed
curry powder to taste [and smell]
1 1/2 tsp sugar
1 medium-sized piece of ginger, grated
1 can whole button mushrooms, sliced in quarters
1 tbsp cornstarch dissolved in 1 tbsp cold water

procedure
put the garlic in the cold oil and let it infuse as the oil heats up; when the garlic is brown and the onion wilted, add the beef, then cook until the meat changes color. add the ice cubes and cover; when they have melted [and the beef is tender] add the salt. when the broth boils again skim off as much of the scum on the surface as possible before adding the next 4 ingredients. cover and let boil; add the mushrooms and, finally, the cornstarch. stir everything and then take off the heat. serve over hot rice or, alternatively, with steamed jacket potatoes.
