You know, you're absolutely right, and nobody mentioned it to me - I ought to edit it to fix the mistake. It's supposed to be the Gaffer's Meat and 'Tater Pie, with Frodo's mushroom gravy. Which is what I think I titled the post, but not the recipe. I had mushrooms on the brain, I think! The recipe is actually my grandmother's, and is one of our family's favorites.
And thank you for the kind comments on the story. I've always thought the death of Bell would really resonate with Frodo, and bring out his compassion. And I've also been irritated by the fanon that Frodo was unable to boil water without burning down the smial. This was the result.
