This is a ground beef (or lamb or turkey) dish that can be flavored any way you'd like, as hot as you'd like. *Warning!!!* I pretty much don't make it the same way twice, so if cooking by the seat of your pants bothers you, this recipe is not for you. But it's REALLY good!...and easy
Chop one onion and brown in about 1 TBSP oil. Add 1-2 crushed garlic cloves and 1 large potato peeled and chopped. Season with ....1/2 tsp. curry powder, 1/2 tsp, turmeric, 1/2 tsp. cumin, 1/2 tsp salt, 1/4 tsp pepper, 1/2 tsp sugar. (some people can get Garam Masala....a blend of Indian spices..if you have it add it to taste; if not, ignore this parenthesis). Cook until potato is covered with the spices, a couple of minutes. Add 1/1/2 lbs. gr. meat. Cook until meat is cooked (about 5 minutes).
Add 1/2 cup white wine, OR 1/2 cup chicken broth and an 8-oz can tomato sauce. Cook about 45 minutes, covered. Check seasonings, and add more of any of the above spices that you wish. I always at least double those quantities...but it's up to you. Add about 1-2 cups frozen peas, cover, and cook for another few minutes. I serve with Basmati rice. If you have an Indian market near you, they carry Puri's (a thin bread dough) in their refrigerator case. If I can remember, I usually buy puri's also.
