ext_28822: Alan Lee's Frodo sketch from ROTK (Chef)

"Kitchen failure is day-to-day physical reality acted out in dreary detail. Not only has it happened once, you know it's going to happen again, just as soon as you get sloppy, or careless, or forget the perils that await the cook who values recipes over experience. The worst thing about kitchen failure is that it makes people believe they can't cook. In reality, everyone who cooks with any sense of adventure fails regularly in some way, major or minor. The best cooks in the world make mistakes and have bad days. The difference between cooks and non-cooks lies not in their failures, but in how they feel them."

That is soo very comforting! Thank you for posting this. For years I've thought I was an idiot in the kitchen because of a string of failures. It's better now, but the occasional 'oops!' still happens and makes me very depressive sometimes. So, it's good to know that it's not only me, but even the best cooks have to survive these disappointing moments.

Heh! Thats so appropriate. Two nights running I have tried to duplicate my mother's chocolate sauce, and ended up with chocolate cement. So, guess third time is the charm. I can do this! Thanks for the uplifting quote.
