6 oz. semisweet chocolate 1/4 cup chocolate syrup 1/4 lb. butter (unsalted if you have it) 1 tsp. vanilla 2 eggs, lightly beaten 3/4 cup sugar pinch of salt (skip if butter is salted, or taste test) 1/2 cup flour
1. preheat oven to 350 degrees F. butter and flour an 8 inch square pan. 2. melt chocolate and add syrup, stirring well 3. take pan off heat and add butter, beat til smooth. Add vanilla and eggs and mix thoroughly 4. in a mixing bowl, sift the salt, sugar, and flour together, then add them all to the pan of chocolate stuff and blend thoroughly. 5. into the butter and floured baking pan with it and bake 30 min. 6. allow to cool, and then cut into small squares. (if you make them really small squares they last longer -- about 1 inch by 1 inch gives you 64 of them in this pattern!)
We've had this one for years Cream (mix) 1/2 cup solid shortening (Crisco, or butter) together with 1 cup granulated sugar. Add 2 eggs and 1/2 tsp liquid vanilla (extract). Melt 2 1-ounce squares unswetened chocolate (like Bakers brand) and add to mixture.
Add in 1/2 cup flour (you don't have to sift it), and walnuts (as many as you like...I usually use 3/4 cup -1 cup either chopped or not)
Bake in 8x8 pan (I read you can't get square pan....you can use an 8" round or a 9"round....(it's early here so I can't do the math to figure equivalent sizing)
Bake at 350 degrees (F) about 15-20 mins.....we like soft and chewy...so you'll have to experiment...start with 15 mins, check then by sticking your finger into middle...remember, it will stiffen up when cooled... If it's too gooey, next time increase time by 5 mins...by the way, if you use butter instead of Crisco, it will tend to be a little gooeyier..
NOTE: if you add 1 cup flour instead of the 1/2 cup, you can make cookies....all rest stays the same
I'll have to use butter, because we don't have solid shortening here (at least, not that I know of) Also, we don't have Baker's chocolate, but any brand will do :)
I'm going to search for a square pan, but I don't know if I will find one
I've got a wonderful recipe for brownies. Unfortunately I'm not home right now. But when I get home Sunday, I'll post it. It uses cocoa powder and butter instead of baking chocolate.

And I don't have a square baking pan, but I guess a round with a diameter of about 9 inches will do too :)

And I never saw a square baking pan in the stores. We don't use them over here. But maybe I could find one at a specialized cook shop.
