My husband, the weirdo with the 29-inch waist and the bloomin' six-pack, is on this no-meat cabbage soup diet, and we're all on it with him. My ears are starting to feel furry, and my front teeth seem to be getting in the way. *darn*

Are there any herbs that go well with cabbage? Just for a change of pace? *sobs* We've got four more days of cabbage soup to go!

I've lost 3 lbs though. I think it's working. :)

What recipe are you using? Garlic and hot peppers would be good. I like dry onion soup mix in mine. I'm never really satisfied unless there is some meat protein involved. Can you sneak in some chopped bacon? Maybe use chicken or beef broth as the base?

For something different, maybe you could try this recipe. Substitute vegetable broth if you can't sneak in the beef:

CABBAGE SOUP

5 carrots, chopped
3 onions, chopped
2 (16 ounce) cans whole peeled tomatoes, with liquid
1 large head cabbage, chopped
1 (1 ounce) envelope dry onion soup mix
1 (15 ounce) can cut green beans, drained
2 quarts tomato juice
2 green bell peppers, diced
10 stalks celery, chopped
1 (14 ounce) can beef broth

Place carrots, onions, tomatoes, cabbage, green beans, peppers, and celery in a large pot. Add onion soup mix, tomato juice, beef broth, and enough water to cover vegetables. Simmer until vegetables are tender. May be stored in the refrigerator for several days.

Yay! I'm glad my additions helped improve your soup for the last day. Wish I had noticed your post earlier. I had to laugh at your son's comments. :)

Congratulations on those 6 pounds! Maybe it's time for me to go on that terrible diet again for a while.

Oh, yeah...I did that soup one...on two separate occasions..it do get tiresome...

You might add some sour salt (can buy it in Jewish food section of market..Rokeach puts it out). Add it to taste (a 1/4 tsp at a time because it's sour...is citric acid.) You could add lemon juice, now that I think of it 'cuz lemon juice is citric acid. Then add some brown or white sugar (about a Tbsp. sugar will do for the whole pot) so there's not many calories.

Oh, and..

I make stuffed cabbage...stuff the cabbage with gr. meat and rice....put large can whole tomatoes chopped in pot, flavor with the sour salt and sugar (you can add raisons, too)..and cook long and low..about 2 hours. I serve with couscous....

Oh, I could go on and on...

I couldn't resist sharing.....

After reading about "the soup" (which I used to make in the past) I decided to make a pot and have a couple of days of light eating so we could maybe lose a pound or two. So I did, and we did and last night while watching TV the guy looked over at me and asked if we had any chocolate in the house (uh, no), and we looked at each other and I said..."be right back", got keys, went to local market and came back with xtra large Hershey milk chocolate bar with almonds(handed to the guy) and pint of Ben and Jerry's of which I ate half, spoonful by luscious spoonful.

Yeah...the body takes what it needs...

and I still have half a pint of B&J hehehe
